GSS inserts have a built-in safety friction clutch that slips when the tap bottoms out or jams. That protects the tap, the workpiece and the machine, so these are the inserts to use for blind holes, and they work for through holes too. The insert size (2, 3 or 4) must match your GSW chuck.
